I don't believe a word of this. Which is not to say that there mightn't be some London woman in her mid-twenties

to structure a conventional romantic story with a character she calls "the Boy"; clever enough to maintain a witty
rapport with parents, ex-boyfriends, madams, and even clients; clever enough to have clever clients; and clever
enough, above all, to survive a life of prostitution with sense of humour, decency and some literary style intact.
(Oh, and a heart of gold.)
As a piece of work, this book is both too well-crafted to feel true, and not well-crafted enough to succeed as fiction.
This is the kind of book Nikki Gemmell's The Bride Stripped Bare might have been had her original plan, of passing it
off as the work of an unknown housewife, not misfired. It is written by a competent author who has done research.
First-hand research? Nope.
Belle's publishers are keeping her identity a secret, she does not post a photo on her web diary, she'll only give
interviews by email, and - sigh - she wasn't invited to her book launch. Pity, that.
